The first 90 days as an FDE

The phrase “first 90 days” is in 1 of 88 opened JDs. We do not invent a 90-day syllabus from that one phrase. Here is what that page says, and what first-pod JDs say instead.

Practitioner diaries are not in this note. When those conversations land, we revise.

The one JD that names the phrase

Protege, Forward Deployed Engineer, New Verticals. First-pod. The page says they measure success on trajectory, not a fixed set of outputs. Then:

“In the first 90 days, we expect the following to happen:”

Same page, earlier: “You’ll be the first FDE dedicated to this vertical… Your job is to turn early customer demand into durable technical capability.” And: “This is not a standard implementation role.”

Protege Ashby page, opened for the 18 Aug 2026 freeze.

That is the first-90 language on this freeze. We do not stretch it into a week-1 diary for every other company.

What the other first-pod pages say instead

They do not write a 90-day plan. They write the playbook, the bar, and signed deal to live.

“You are one of the first FDEs at Tacto, so you are not slotting into a playbook, you are writing it.”

Tacto

“You will be the first FDE on the team, which means you set the bar.”

Amari

“You will not be handed a playbook, you'll help write it.”

Cape

“Build the playbooks and tooling that define how Airweave lands in enterprise.”

Airweave

“As our Founding Forward Deployed Engineer, you'll be the first hire dedicated to making enterprise implementations successful.”

Warp

“You've helped define the FDE playbook that the next hire will use.”

Tread (opened JD; not in the 30 first-pod rows)

What that is buying

On first-pod seats, useful means the motion exists because you were there. A hire two could run your notes without you in the room. That is the playbook. Protege’s list is one company’s version of the same buy: understand the vertical, ship infrastructure, own engagements, make it reusable.

If your 90-day plan is “learn the product and build relationships,” you have described every job. These pages are buying a live system and a playbook.

The Guide has a week 1 / day 30 / 60 / 90 working OS. It is labeled as ours, inferred from this first-pod language. It is not a sourced diary.
